In the beginning…

We purchased this Jeep in June, 2000. As I live in SE Wisconsin, it was a great find as it came from Texas with no rust. After driving it for a few months, it became obvious that a 2.5L four-cylinder and 30 x 9.5 tires (even though they were ATs) was a loosing proposition. I had mini-vans passing me on one trip to La Crosse. I decided then to upgrade the drivetrain. I swapped out the four-cylinder and put in a weak Chevy 305 and a 700R4 transmission, keeping the NP231 transfer case. Mileage stayed about the same with so much more power!
