We started the buggy today

First, I pulled a valve cover just because I like to look at roller rockers! A few issues, like a starter that didn’t want to work, and a few leaks here and there, but the buggy fired up today. It … Continue reading

Engine and transmission installed.

Working on radiator and fuel tank now. Had to wait for an oil seal for the front of the transfer case, or I would have had that bolted in tonight as well.

The buggy is back in the garage, time to assemble

I picked up the chassis this morning, and once I got it home, I attached the newly painted axles and pushed it into the garage. Tomorrow night I hope to have the drivetrain installed and then work on radiator, fuel … Continue reading

The chassis has some color!

I get to pick up the painted chassis tomorrow! I stopped by the paint shop a few minutes ago and took some pictures. What do you think?

Good progress again, no pictures

As of a few hours ago, I dropped the chassis off for sand-blasting and paint. It was a long weekend of making sure I had brackets and tabs to hold everything I need to the chassis. Today was just finish … Continue reading

It’s looking like a buggy!

So, this past weekend, I took to the buggy to Mike’s shop. We (mostly him) fabricated the floor, firewall, dash, and center console. He does amazing work. I have this week to get all ¬†of the chassis tabs done, before … Continue reading

So the past two months seemed to take forever. Every time I thought I was getting somewhere, I found an issue and cut pieces apart and started again. Not many details, other than I’ve finally gotten past the suspension, and … Continue reading

Updates for April

I’ve been working on the buggy, and work has been very busy so the updates have been slow. As of now, I’ve got the seat in the correct spot, the brake pedal mounted and the orbital valve with steering column … Continue reading

Engine mounts are attached

The engine hoist is now not a required piece of the chassis! We fabricated some plate steel and tube engine mounts. The plates are 5/16″ and the tubing is .188 wall 1.75″ tube. The transfer case mount is 1.75″ .120 … Continue reading

Fitting the drivetrain in the chassis

I got the transmission back from the rebuilder and assembled my small block chevy to that rebuilt TH400, and then bolted up the Atlas 4-speed transfer case. I picked the entire drivetrain up (with the help of my wife) and … Continue reading

The new Atlas 4-speed transfer is here

It’s a lousy picture but at least it is here. This is a brand new Atlas 4-speed transfer case. It has a 2.7:1 front reduction box, and behind that a 2:1 transfer case. You can go slow (2:1), slower (2.7:1) … Continue reading

Rock crawler chassis is in the garage!

It’s here! Over 1,900 miles in three days, but it is now home! It’s still on the trailer because I am too tired to get it off the trailer tonight.
